How to get the most from it

Confirm the details

When accepting, repeat the job title, pay and start date so any mistake is caught now, not on your first payslip.

Decline quickly and kindly

Once you have decided, say so. A prompt, gracious no lets them move to the next candidate and leaves the door open for later.

Get the offer in writing first

Before you resign from a current job, make sure you have the offer in writing, including any conditions such as a background check.

Questions

Do I need to give a reason for declining?

No. "I have decided to accept another position" is enough. Keep it short and thank them for their time.

Can I accept by phone?

Yes, but follow up in writing the same day so the agreed terms and start date are on record.
