How to get the most from it

Keep it short

A resignation letter is a record, not a conversation. State that you are resigning, your last day and a thank-you. Save the reasons for the meeting, if at all.

Tell your manager first

Resign in person or on a call, then send the letter the same day so the dates are in writing.

Offer a handover

Offering to document your work or train a replacement is the best way to keep a good reference.

Questions

How much notice should I give?

Two weeks is standard in the US unless your contract says otherwise. Senior roles often give more.

Do I have to give a reason for leaving?

No. A brief, positive letter without reasons is normal and professional.
